Hello Bruce, recently I applied to council for their consideration of allowing our small not for profit radio sailing club to be granted permission to use Quanda Lake for our sailing activity. I spoke with council's Yve Clark who relayed back the following negative response.

I have an answer to your query with regard to the use of Quanda Lake at Coolum for Radio Sailing.

The comment received back from Council's Team Leader for Waterways Operations is:-

' Quanda Lake is in the process of being placed under an exclusive use leasing arrangement. No other activities are permitted in the area. '

Consequently, Council is unable to offer this venue as an option for your activity.

To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. Our activity will be hosting an international regatta in February 2013 with competitors coming from all over the world. As I explained in my application, we are currently sailing at Kawana but the site is privately owned by Stockland and we are concerned about our ability to have security of tenure there for obvious reasons when you read the latest developments in the news.
Do you think that there is any hope that the council's intentions can be modified or is public interest now subsumed by commercial interest?
